September and we are home

It was a very long flight home. A few movies and food didn't appear to make it shorter. We were sort of hoping that the plane would be delayed by a few hours so we could have a stop over and see Mike and Becks and kids. But like everything else on the holiday we had no problems - can't complain about that can we.

We arrived at midnight, pleased we had remembered where we had put the keys and piled into bed. Alison had left us some milk and a few treats and as we sat in bed sipping a cup of tea (just how we like it) we noted our appreciation (but didnt let her know until the morning).

I was pleased I had taken two days off. Harry left early (said goodbye with a smile and another cup of tea) and I lay looking out the window thinking about the day. Shopping for food, a wander around the garden in the sun, a walk and a laze reading a book.  The garden looks amazing -  I think I should neglect it more often.

I walked home from work  a few times and taking a photo from my usual spot half way up the bridle path I saw the ferry arrive and the busy motorway below. Except for the city activities below I always I have a feeling I am in the bush in the middle of nowhere. Rather a nice way of leaving the office behind.

And it was time to catch up with family. Sitting in the conservatory, rugged up against a wintry night, eating fish and chips by candle light - what more could a grand parent ask for. And I forgot - teaching them about chip butties.

Another day I wandered through the gardens - it was tulip Sunday after all. We also had a visit to the kaitoke country gardens (it has a new name now but I can't remember it). A little local treasure - nestled in a valley - someone had the idea of planting lots of cherry trees (we felt like we were in mini Japan - quite appropriate since the world cup was on - which in case someone doesn't know we came 3rd just in front of my 2nd favorite team Wales).
